These simple buildings are constructed in between 1840 to 1960, usually 2 to 3 storeys where the business was conducted at the first floor and the top floors were for residential purpose. One of the most prominent feature is the verandah that served as a continuous passage on both side of the street, the walkway which is also known as the 'five-foot-way'
